Project Spotlight: Open-Plan Transformation
Baths & Builds recently transformed a dated 1980s semi-detached property in Brentwood, Essex into a modern, open-plan living space for the Carter family. The original layout was dark, boxed-in and separated into small rooms that didn’t flow. Our team removed internal walls, reconfigured the ground floor and opened the space to allow natural light to travel across the entire living area.
We introduced new structural steel supports to safely open the layout, upgraded the electrics and plumbing, and installed a contemporary open-plan kitchen with a large island ideal for family meals and entertaining. Warm wood finishes, soft lighting and neutral tones were used to keep the space inviting and comfortable — not cold or clinical.
The result is a bright, spacious, fully multi-functional hub for family life — a place where cooking, dining, working, relaxing and spending time together all connect effortlessly. What was once an old-fashioned 1980s floorplan is now a modern, practical family home designed for the way the Carters actually live today.
